There will be blood orange gimlets.

Sometimes after a long day you need to get together with a friend and make a gimlet. What is a gimlet you ask? A gimlet is a cocktail that features gin and lime juice, traditionally, however this recipe is anything but traditional!
We ended up tweaking the recipe Kristin found online so it was a little more flavourful!
Blood orange gimlet:

1oz of freshly squeezed and strained blood orange juice
1oz of basil syrup (see recipe below)
2oz of gin
A dash of cassis or chambord if you’re feeling crazy. I added this because our oranges weren’t juicy enough.
Mix all the ingredients in a martini shaker filled half way with ice. Do not shake the contents, but gently stir them with a cocktail spoon. Strain into gimlet glasses and enjoy!

Basil simple syrup:
We used half a cup of fresh basil leaves
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
Throw everything into a pot and leave it on medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
Side note: I’m in love with the picture of the gimlet I took. I think the colours compliment each other beautifully. This is currently the wallpaper for my phone. I may or may not have taken things a tad too far. Cocktail culture obsessed much?!
